Clik here to view.New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan claims that if he would’ve been hired by the San Diego Chargers back in 2007 instead of Norv Turner, he would have won two Super Bowls already.
“Well, I think I would have had a couple rings,” Ryan said when asked by San Diego reporters how things would have gone if he was hired by Chargers GM A.J. Smith. “I’m telling you, those teams were loaded. There’s no question about it. But things happen for a reason. Obviously, Norv Turner has done a great job there. And A.J. (Smith) and everybody. That’s a great franchise. He was probably the best guy for the job at that time.”
It sounds to me like Ryan is claiming that Turner has done a terrible job of coaching the Chargers and he would’ve done much better.
Ryan claimed that he called Turner later on to clarify his comments and let him know he wasn’t trying to disrespect him.
Turner was asked about his conversation with Ryan by the local San Diego media.
“It really was between he and I,” Turner said. “I think we’ve had enough coaching drama in the league the last few days. We don’t need anymore.”
Turner was also asked if he appreciated the call and if he still took offense to what Ryan had said.
“I hadn’t seen the quote,” Turner said. “I was a little bit surprised by the call. And then after I saw the quote, I just, I didn’t have a chance to ask him this, but I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he guaranteed the last couple years.”
Is it me, or is everyone else sick of Rex Ryan running his mouth about winning a Super Bowl? Just be quiet already and make sure your team is ready to play each and every week. It’s great that he’s gotten the Jets close, but it doesn’t mean anything. No one remembers the losers of the conference title games every season.
I really believe that as long as Ryan keeps talking and not producing he’ll sooner or later lose the respect of his team and eventually his job.
